Our festival is designed to foster inclusivity and celebrate diversity across sports, with a range of events that cater to everyone. Find out more about the festival, here. Please note that new sport-delivered events will be added periodically, so we encourage you to check back regularly. If your organisation is interested in hosting an activity or joining the festival, please complete an Expression of Interest (EOI) here to get involved.

January 2025

Aqualicious Masters Swimming Club – Sunshine Coast Swim Squad (QLD)

What is it? Join Aqualicious Sunshine Coast for their regular coached swim squad sessions, running Wednesday evenings & Sunday mornings throughout January, February, March, and April!

All sessions cater to ALL abilities – with three different lanes for beginners to advanced swimmers.

Sunday sessions are followed by a casual brunch.
First Wednesday of every month – post-training squad dinner.

Open to adult swimmers of any age, gender, and ability – whether you’re looking to improve your technique, train with a welcoming squad, or just enjoy a fun and social swim.

Queer Sporting Alliance – QSA National Sports Tournament

What is it? The QSA National Sports Tournament (NST) is Australia’s largest LGBTIQA+ sports tournament, bringing together basketball and netball teams from across the country!

Held yearly at Narrandjeri Stadium, Thornbury (VIC), the NST is more than just a tournament—it’s a celebration of community. With DJ sets, roving roller-skating performers, giveaways, and a vibrant community market featuring local businesses, the event is all about connection, inclusion, and fun.

An accessible quiet space will also be available for those who need a break during the tournament.

The NST embraces the QSA spirit, prioritising fun over competition. Players of all gender identities, abilities, and allies are welcome to participate. Whether you’re hitting the court or cheering from the sidelines, come be part of this unforgettable experience!

Hobart Out Tennis – Come and Try day and Pride Cup

What is it? Join Hobart Out Tennis for a fun-filled day of tennis and community at the Domain Tennis Centre as part of the TasPride Festival!

Whether you’re keen to compete in a singles/doubles mini comp or just want to give tennis a go, there’s something for everyone! Enjoy a mix of coaching, games, drills, and a hitting machine in a friendly and inclusive environment.

After some action on the courts, stick around for a free BBQ with fellow participants, hosted by the club.

No experience? No worries! Come as you are and be part of this welcoming celebration of sport and community.


February 2025

Greenwich Flying Squadron and RANSA – Pride Regatta (NSW)

What is it? Kick off the 2025 Mardi Gras season with the Pride Twilight Regatta, where LGBTQ+ skippers and crews race across the stunning Sydney Harbour. Hosted in collaboration with the Royal Australian Naval Sailing Association (RANSA) in Rushcutters Bay, this event welcomes all yachts with a valid CAT 7 Certificate. 

Following the race, join us at the RANSA Clubhouse for a celebratory dinner, live entertainment, and a prize ceremony.

Mardi Gras Fair Day

Sydney Spectres Gay Basketball Club – Fair Day – Give Basketball a Go! (NSW)

What is It? In partnership with Basketball NSW, we’re bringing an exciting pop-up basketball experience to the festival! Test your skills with fun challenges like spinning a ball on your finger, shooting a soft ball into a hoop, and a basketball guessing game. This interactive activation welcomes people of all backgrounds and skill levels, providing a great opportunity to learn more about our Train to Play program, launching after the Mardi Gras Festival. You’ll also get invites to our Open Day the following week, a chance to hit the court, try some fun drills, and learn more about getting involved.

Melbourne Chargers – Come and Try Session

Whether you’re brand new to the sport or looking to get back into it, we’ll teach you the basics, introduce you to the team, and prepare you for Season 2025. With the Purchas Cup in Auckland this year and the international Bingham 2026 tournament in Brisbane, there’s never been a better time to get involved. 

No experience necessary, our strength lies in our diversity, and we welcome everyone, regardless of sexuality, gender identity, or fitness level. 

Freezone Volleyball – Volleyball for Beginners (NSW)

As part of the Pride in Sport Festival, Freezone Volleyball Club is hosting a three-week introductory volleyball program during Mardi Gras 2025. Designed for novice and beginner LGBTQIA+ players, these sessions provide a welcoming space to learn the basics, build confidence, and enjoy the game, no prior experience needed! 

Led by qualified coaches, you’ll develop fundamental skills, meet new people, and experience the joy of volleyball in a supportive and social setting. All genders, abilities, and experience levels (18+) are welcome! 

Gay and Lesbian Martial Arts – Free Self Defense Workshop (NSW)

Lets Go Surfing – Come and Try Session (NSW)

Squash SAPride Sport Decathlon (SA)

What is it? In partnership with Squash SA, Adelaide Uni Sport, and up to six LGBTQIA+ sports clubs, we’re bringing a multi-sport “decathlon” activation to the Adelaide Uni Campus! 

Participants will move through a fun and inclusive sporting course that winds around the River Torrens and campus, trying out a variety of sports along the way. No experience needed, just bring your energy and get ready to jump in, play, and connect with the LGBTQIA+ sporting community!

In these one-hour sessions, our friendly coaches will guide you through the basics of skating, including stopping and more, in a supportive and welcoming environment. We’ll provide safety gear (helmet, knee and elbow pads, and wristguards) and skates for you to borrow. Feel free to bring your own if you have them! Come along and try something new!

The Melbourne Smashers are one of the largest LGBTQI+ social sporting clubs for adults, offering a welcoming, inclusive space for players of all abilities, whether you’re a beginner or a state-level player. Our foundation is a shared love of badminton, community, and having fun while staying active. 

The Shuttlecats is a vibrant LGBTQI+ social badminton club for queer, transgender women, non-binary individuals, and allies, all united by a love for the sport and a commitment to inclusivity.

Family-friendly activities will run from 4-6pm, including face painting for kids, and activations like Pickleball, Cardio Tennis, Social Tennis, and Table Tennis. 

Entertainment highlights include Drag King DJ Sexy Galexy, tasty treats from The Little Gelato Cart, BBQ goodness from Bunnings, and appearances from celebrity influencers in sport, music, media, and other dignitaries.

Enjoy a range of activities including: Real court experience, High-quality matches featuring LGBTQ+ community members, Fun accuracy competitions, Socialising with snacks and drinks.

What is it? Join Sydney’s LGBTQIA+ inclusive water polo club for the exciting Bootylympics Tournament, the grand finale of our Boot Camp for complete beginners! 

This is your chance to showcase the skills you’ve learned during the boot camp in a fun, inclusive, and supportive environment. After the tournament, we’ll celebrate with a social event alongside your fellow Booties! Bonus points will be awarded for goals scored by Booties, with dedicated time to review rules and strategies. To get the most out of Bootylympics and Boot Camp, we recommend being able to swim 1km in 30 minutes. 

Australian Dodgeball Federation (UNSW Dodgeball) – Pride in Dodgeball (NSW)

The tournament will consist of two stages:

Grab your friends, dress up in your best gear, and get ready to dodge some balls! This is a fantastic opportunity to show your team spirit, have fun, and be part of an inclusive, supportive event.

Harbour Lights Ice Hockey Club – Pride in Ice (NSW)

Hosted by Harbour Lights, Sydney’s LGBTQIA+ ice hockey club, this annual event brings together players from across Australia for a full day of fast-paced, non-checking hockey.

NSW Rugby League – Seminar/Community/Open Day (NSW)

What is it? The Inclusion Champions Seminar will take place alongside our annual Inclusion Gala Day, celebrating and uniting individuals from all groups represented across the six NSWRL inclusion pillars: First Nations, Gender Equity, Multicultural, All Abilities, and LGBTQ+ Pride. The seminar is a one-hour educational workshop conducted by Pride in Sport, designed to empower attendees to become champions for inclusion in their clubs and communities. Attendees will receive a gift pack, including a rainbow Rugby League ball, lanyard, and other items, and hear from a guest speaker with lived experience. 

The Gala Day is a family-friendly event, offering people of all abilities and backgrounds the opportunity to watch and try Rugby League in a safe, inclusive environment. Participants will also have the chance to tour through the Olympic tunnel to the stadium.

UWA Sport – LGBTQIA+ Come and Try Sports Day

Participants will have the opportunity to try a variety of sports in a welcoming and supportive environment, connect with local clubs, and meet fellow community members. Whether you’re new to sport or a seasoned player, this is your chance to have fun, discover new opportunities, and help create more inclusive spaces in sport.

Amazon Women’s Tennis – Compass Singles Tournament

What is it? The Amazon Women’s Tennis Compass Singles Tournament is a vibrant celebration of sport and community for LGBTQIA+ women! Held on the same weekend as Lesbian Visibility Day, this event welcomes women of all skill levels to enjoy a friendly competition in a festival atmosphere. The compass format ensures that every participant progresses through multiple rounds, fostering camaraderie and fun, regardless of wins or losses. 

As part of our 30th anniversary celebration, this tournament offers a welcoming space for both seasoned players and newcomers looking to test their skills. Bring your friends and family for a day of tennis, celebration, and connection! 


Free Education

LGBTQ+ AWARENESS

LGBTQ+ Awareness is an introductory session for anyone who is interested in learning more about the LGBTQ+ community and inclusion. This is an interactive session where questions are encouraged, and discussions are held in a respectful and safe environment. By the end of the session participants will:

  • Understand the business case for LGBTQ+ inclusion and explain why it is important in a sporting context
  • Understand some of the lived experiences and unique challenges for LGBTQ+ people and the impact to sporting organisations
  • Understand the diversity of, and differences between sex characteristics, gender identity, gender expression and sexual orientation
  • Learn some introductory actions individuals can take to create a more inclusive sporting culture

EMPOWERING ALLIES

The purpose of this session is to build on the knowledge about LGBTQ+ inclusion covered in ‘LGBTQ+ Awareness’. This session will focus on what an ally is and how we can be allies in the sport and beyond. This interactive workshop allows participants to build their skills in intervention as well as their understanding of what makes a good ally.

TRANS & GENDER DIVERSE AWARENESS

The aim of this session is to provide participants with an overall understanding of binary and non-binary gender experiences and identities as part of the LGBTQ+ spectrum. The session will explore the complex nature of gender identity and gender affirmation processes (transitioning), provide a level of comfort around terminology, outline some of the unique challenges often faced by transgender and gender diverse people and how to support a person affirming their gender in your organisation. The session will also provide awareness on the impact that culture has on the lived experiences of its participants regardless of their gender identity.

LGBTQ+ INCLUSION FOR COACHES

The aim of the session is to provide Coaching Staff (Coaches, Assistant Coaches, Managers, Trainers etc) with an overall understanding of why LGBTQ+ inclusion in a team environment is important as well as to provide a level of comfort around terminology, explore challenges often faced by LGBTQ+ athletes and provide awareness on the impact that a team culture has on the lived experiences of LGBTQ+ people.

  • Explore the potential of the Submission process to measure and track progress
  • Learn from the experience of sporting organisations who have used the PSI to grow their sport
