These awards honour individuals and initiatives that lead the way in fostering safer, more inclusive sporting environments across Australia. Each category shines a spotlight on the advocacy, leadership, and innovation that drive meaningful change in sport, acknowledging role models, allies, and trailblazers who inspire progress. Explore the award categories below and submit your nominations to help us celebrate those making a difference. Award Nomination Forms Executive Leadership Award expand_more ‘CLICK HERE’ to complete the nomination. This award recognises the outstanding contribution of an executive leader within Australian sport who has led by example in the LGBTQ+ inclusion space and made a significant contribution to the inclusion of people with diverse sexualities and/or genders within their sport or club. This nomination is open to individuals in executive leadership roles across sport, regardless of their gender identity or sexual orientation. Culture is driven from the top, and visible executive leadership in LGBTQ+ inclusion sends a powerful message both within and beyond the organisation. Their contributions should reflect both internal and external work, communicating strong and consistent support to potential members, staff, coaches, officials, volunteers, LGBTQ+ people engaging with the sport, and the broader LGBTQ+ community and public. Examples of executive leaders may include Club Presidents, Vice Presidents, Secretaries, Board Members, CEOs, C-suite leaders (including those who report directly to the CEO or Chair), General Managers, Directors of Coaching, Officiating or Selection, and any other senior leaders with significant responsibility within their sporting organisation. The nominee’s impact on LGBTQ+ inclusion should be recognised and acknowledged by others within their sport or club as part of their demonstrated leadership and contribution. Inclusive Coach of the Year expand_more ‘CLICK HERE’ to complete the nomination. This award recognises the significant impact of coaches (including assistant coaches) within sport who demonstrate a strong commitment to LGBTQ+ inclusion above and beyond the expectations of their role. This nomination is open to individuals in coaching roles across sport, regardless of their gender identity or sexual orientation. The nominee has a strong record of advocating for and/or supporting athletes with diverse sexualities and/or genders in sport, and their contribution to LGBTQ+ inclusion is recognised and acknowledged by others within their sport or club. The nominee must have held a coaching role during the assessed year. This nomination is for one coach only. If you wish to nominate another coach, a separate submission must be completed. LGBTQ+ Ally of the Year expand_more ‘CLICK HERE’ to complete the nomination. This award recognises the outstanding contribution of an individual within Australian sport who does not personally identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, or queer, but who has made a significant contribution as an active ally to the inclusion of people with diverse sexualities and genders within their sport or club. An ally may be anyone who actively and visibly supports LGBTQ+ inclusion. While the term is often used to describe non-LGBTQ+ individuals who support inclusion, it is also important to recognise that LGBTQ+ people can be allies to one another (for example, a cisgender gay man may be an ally to lesbian and trans and gender diverse people, and vice versa). Non-LGBTQ+ allies play an important role in sharing the responsibility of inclusion work, helping to ensure it is not carried solely by LGBTQ+ people. Active and visible allies are individuals who are committed to creating positive and meaningful change for LGBTQ+ people in sport. Characteristics of such allies may include, but are not limited to: general advocacy and support for inclusion a commitment to equity and respect for all understanding of key terminology, common myths, and challenges faced by LGBTQ+ people strong awareness of language and assumptions directed toward LGBTQ+ communities consistent use and modelling of person-centred language a willingness to respect privacy and maintain confidentiality active engagement in addressing negative behaviours toward LGBTQ+ people The nominee’s impact on LGBTQ+ inclusion should be recognised and acknowledged by others within their sport or club. LGBTQ+ Inclusive Innovation Award expand_more ‘CLICK HERE’ to complete the nomination. This award takes a broader view of LGBTQ+ inclusion and recognises an innovative inclusion initiative, product, service, or governance approach that promotes the inclusion of LGBTQ+ people within sport and recreation organisations at any level, or across sport more broadly. Innovation may be demonstrated through new internal inclusion projects, stakeholder engagement strategies, external communications (including media campaigns), product and service design, governance practices, representation of LGBTQ+ people, and other areas of work within sport and recreation organisations. This award celebrates the most innovative LGBTQ+ inclusion initiative(s) undertaken during the assessed calendar year, particularly those with a demonstrated record of promoting and/or supporting athletes with diverse sexualities and/or genders in sport. The nominated initiative should demonstrate a clear and significant impact on LGBTQ+ inclusion within its context. LGBTQ+ Role Model Award expand_more ‘CLICK HERE’ to complete the nomination. This nomination is for an LGBTQ+ individual within your sport who is highly visible as a role model and has made an outstanding contribution to raising awareness, advocating for, and promoting LGBTQ+ inclusion within their organisation. The nominee has a strong record of advocating for and/or supporting athletes with diverse sexualities and/or genders in sport, and their impact on LGBTQ+ inclusion is recognised and acknowledged by others within their sport or club. This award recognises the critical role that LGBTQ+ role models play in demonstrating and reinforcing inclusion within sport. The nominee must identify as a person with a diverse sexuality and/or gender to be eligible for this award. Positive Media Award expand_more ‘CLICK HERE’ to complete the nomination. This award recognises contributions to LGBTQ+ sporting-related media (including published, screened, and broadcast work) that promotes the inclusion of LGBTQ+ people within sporting organisations at any level, or across sport more broadly, in a positive and constructive frame. The nominee has a strong record of advocating for and/or supporting athletes with diverse sexualities and/or genders in sport, and their contribution to LGBTQ+ inclusion is recognised and acknowledged by others within their sporting context. The nominated work should: raise awareness of LGBTQ+ inclusion within an Australian sporting context demonstrate a significant positive impact on LGBTQ+ inclusion The nominated work must have been published, screened, or broadcast during the assessed calendar year. Nominations Deadline The deadline for award nominations is no later than 9:00am AEDT Monday 8 February 2027. When Will Results Be Announced? The Pride in Sport Index results and Award Winners will be revealed at the Australian Pride in Sport Awards, held annually to celebrate excellence in LGBTQ+ inclusion within sport.
